1. General Rule: Keep it Light and Loose

When it comes to clothing, comfort and breathability come first.

    • Fabrics: Opt for loose-fitting cotton, linen, or lightweight performance fabrics. Tight jeans or heavy synthetic materials can trap heat and become uncomfortable during outdoor activities or long drives.
    • Colors: Lighter colors (white, beige, khaki, light grey) reflect the sun better than dark colors. They are also much better for photography against the golden sand.

    2. Footwear: Sandals vs. Closed Shoes

    Sand gets into everything. Choosing the right footwear will save you a lot of annoyance.

      • Open Sandals or Slip-Ons: Great for walking around the desert camp because it is easy to shake the sand out.
      • Light Sneakers: If you plan on sandboarding or exploring rougher patches of terrain, a lightweight sneaker or walking shoe is ideal. Just be prepared to empty out a handful of sand at the end of the day!

      • If you are joining an evening safari that includes a traditional desert camp dinner, bringing a light scarf or a cover-up is handy for the cooler evening hours or out of personal preference.

      4. Seasonal Adjustments: Summer vs. Winter

      The Dubai desert feels entirely different depending on when you visit:

      • Summer Months (May to September): Keep your clothing as light and breathable as possible. Sunglasses, a hat, and high-SPF sunscreen are absolute necessities.
      • Winter Months (October to April): Daytime is gorgeous and warm, but the temperature drops rapidly the moment the sun goes down. Always bring a light jacket, sweater, or hoodie for the evening camp portion of your tour.
